Tibet Permits: Foreign travelers require a valid Chinese visa and Tibet Travel Permit (arranged by us).
Altitude Sickness: Lhasa is at 3,660m—rest on arrival, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol/strenuous activity initially. Consult your doctor about preventive medications like Diamox. Symptoms like headache or fatigue are common but usually mild.
Health & Packing: Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, warm layers, comfortable walking shoes, and any personal medications.
Cultural Respect: Dress modestly, walk clockwise around temples, follow guide instructions, and respect local customs. Photography restrictions may apply inside some sites.
Weather: Prepare for variable high-altitude conditions; UV exposure is strong.
Fly into Lhasa Gonggar Airport. Upon arrival, meet your Tibetan guide and driver for a transfer to your hotel in Lhasa (about 1 hour). Spend the rest of the day resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude. Light walking around the hotel area is recommended to ease into the plateau environment.
Overnight in Lhasa (No Meal)
After breakfast, visit the iconic Potala Palace—a 13-story architectural marvel and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its White and Red Palaces, chapels, and tombs of past Dalai Lamas. In the afternoon, head to the sacred Jokhang Temple, Tibet's most revered shrine housing the Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Morning visit to Drepung Monastery, one of the "Great Three" Gelug monasteries, once home to over 10,000 monks. Its white buildings resemble a heap of rice, symbolizing prosperity. Drive south (approx. 2-3 hours) over the scenic Kamba La Pass (4,793m) to Yamdrok Lake (also known as Yamdrok Yumtso), one of Tibet's three sacred holy lakes at 4,441m. Admire its vibrant turquoise waters, shaped like a scorpion or fan, against snow-capped mountains. Enjoy panoramic views, photo stops, and the serene spiritual atmosphere.
