Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, complete visa formalities and baggage collection. You will be warmly welcomed by your dedicated Bhutanese tour guide and representative, who will accompany you throughout the trip.
Drive to Thimphu (approx. 1.5 hours). En route, visit Tachogang Lhakhang (also known as Tachog Lhakhang), a historic temple founded by the iron-chain bridge builder Thangthong Gyalpo. The temple houses sacred relics and offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
In Thimphu, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a revered stupa built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It stands as a monument to world peace and remains a focal point for locals performing daily circumambulations and prayers.

Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point) – A massive 51-meter golden statue of Buddha overlooking the Thimphu Valley. The site offers panoramic views and a peaceful ambiance. • Bhutan Post Office – Opportunity to send personalized stamps and postcards featuring Bhutanese themes. • Traditional Handmade Paper Factory – Witness the ancient process of producing dehsho paper from the Daphne plant. Afternoon: Visit Tashichho Dzong (Thimphu Dzong), a majestic fortress-monastery that serves as the seat of the government and houses the throne room. Its impressive architecture beautifully blends administrative and religious functions.

After breakfast, drive across the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100m) with its 108 memorial chortens and stunning Himalayan vistas (weather permitting). Continue to the remote and pristine Phobjikha Valley (also known as Gangtey Valley). This glacial valley is renowned for its traditional Bhutanese rural lifestyle and as the winter habitat of the endangered Black-necked Cranes. Enjoy the dramatic landscapes of the Black Mountains and the valley floor.

After breakfast, embark on the beautiful Gangtey Nature Trail (approx. 2–3 hours), one of Bhutan’s most scenic and accessible trails. The walk takes you through flower-filled meadows, forests, and traditional villages, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography. Visit Gangtey Goemba (Gangtey Monastery), a 16th-century monastery perched on a hilltop overlooking the valley – a landmark of the region. The trail can also include a visit to the local community school.

Visit Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple), built in 1499 by Ngawang Choegyel. This charming monastery is dedicated to the “Divine Madman” Drukpa Kunley and is a popular site for blessings. Continue to Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses. Strategically located at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers, it was constructed in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Its architecture, murals, and setting are truly magnificent.

After breakfast, explore more of Punakha Valley: • Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery – A serene hilltop Buddhist college for nuns featuring beautiful landscaping and a prominent white stupa. • Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chörten – A magnificent stupa built by Her Majesty the Queen Mother. A pleasant 30–45 minute uphill walk through rice fields leads to this sacred site with exceptional views.

After breakfast, drive to Paro. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest dzong in Bhutan (built in 1629), known for its strategic location and fine wall paintings. Upon arrival in Paro, enjoy lunch. Afternoon visit to Ta Dzong (National Museum), housed in a unique circular watchtower above Rinpung Dzong. The museum features an outstanding collection of Bhutanese art, artifacts, textiles, weapons, and stamps.

Today’s highlight is the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan’s most iconic and sacred site. Clinging to a sheer cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley, it is believed Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave for three months. The moderate hike (approx. 4–5 hours round trip) passes through pine forests and offers breathtaking views. Lunch can be enjoyed at the cafeteria with panoramic views of the monastery.
